I was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas and attended college and law school at the University of Texas at Austin. I began practicing law in 1980 and spent my career in Houston, with a three-year stint in Dallas from 2012 to 2015. My law practice was devoted to representing personal injury plaintiffs in various types of cases. On November 1, 2023, I left the practice of trial law to become a full-time mediator.
As a native Texan, I was given a head start understanding different points of view. Traveling the state as a lawyer, I met people of different backgrounds and cultures. They were teachers, truck drivers, construction workers, oilfield workers, nurses, and store clerks. I have represented all kinds of people.
The most important lesson I learned was that people are all the same, no matter where they live or how they talk. They all want a good life for themselves and their families. Most of all, they want to be treated fairly.
Gayle and I were married in 1980. We have a son, a daughter, a son-in-law, and two granddaughters. When I’m not working, I like to exercise, play guitar, read, and write.
